Hi,
we're Local #105 of the American Federation of Musicians.
We're
known as the Professional Musicians of the Inland Northwest
because although our office is located in Spokane, Washington,
our territory stretches east through North Idaho to
the Montana border and west above the I-90 corridor
all the way to Ellensburg, Washington.
That
span of about 225 miles makes us geographically one
of the largest locals in the AFM, and we've been helping
Northwest musicians and serving the musical needs of
our extended community for over one hundred years since
our charter began in February of 1900.
In
those early days, when the mining and timber industries
fueled the boom-time economic growth of this area, local
musicians depended upon Musicians' Mutual Protective
Union #105 to help them retain work and improve working
conditions.
Now,
in the present day, though the boom times, barrel house
saloons and the One A.M. miners' dances are long gone,
our mission remains very much the same.
The
modern musician, like his counterpart of 100 years ago,
still needs stability, growth, dignity and protection
from exploitation.
Times
are different, however, now that these needs are vastly
more demanding and imply the necessity for modern education,
health care, transportation, equipment, grooming, marketing
savvy and a long list of further training and attributes
that make a musician competitive in todays' musical
environment.
The
Professional Musicians of the Inland Northwest, Local
105 of the American Federation of Musicians is committed
to working with Local Musicians to meet their needs
and secure the future of Live Music in our Community.
